People at Work and Unemployment — Anglais Terminale D
This unit deals with the world of work: how to describe a job, talk about looking for one, and discuss unemployment. In Madagascar, where many young graduates from Antananarivo or Antsirabe struggle to find a position, being able to talk about employment in English is a real asset, especially for tourism, NGOs and online jobs. Cette unité te donne les mots justes pour en parler sans erreur.
Ravo studied accounting in Antananarivo, but he has been unemployed for six months. Every morning he applies for a job online and hopes a company will hire him soon. (Ravo a étudié la comptabilité, mais il est au chômage depuis six mois ; chaque matin il postule en ligne.)
À retenir
- Work est indénombrable (no plural) : I have a lot of work. Job est dénombrable : a good job, two jobs.
- To hire / to employ = embaucher ; to fire / to lay off = licencier ; to apply for a job = postuler.
- Le nom est unemployment (chômage) ; l'adjectif est unemployed ou jobless (sans emploi).
- Pour parler d'une durée qui continue : He has been unemployed for six months (present perfect + for).
